SoundMind Bulletin 002 • September 2019

As we leave summer for fall, we wanted to update everyone following the SoundMind Center on some recent goings on. We are still plugging away at getting an expanded access site established and with that we have and will be learning from and helping to teach others from all around the state, country, and world. We are participating in a wonderful psychedelic medicine conference in Pittsburgh this weekend and are extremely excited about that. We have been reflecting on how to integrate what we learned at the Psychedelic Medicine and Cultural Trauma Workshop last month in Kentucky into the infrastructure of the forthcoming SoundMind Center, and want to share with all some topics that were discussed there. Logistically and philosophically, we have been growing, and we are excited to share some of that with you - so check out some of the items below and we hope to see you either in Pittsburgh or somewhere, sometime, in the near future!

September 27—29: Join us in Pittsburgh at the Sleeping Octopus Assembly on Psychedelics

Sleeping Octopus Assembly on Psychedelics is Sept 27-29th in Pittsburgh. It is a fun and relaxed conference, a nice mix of healthcare workers, scientists, artists, philosophers, and enthusiasts. The lineup includes visionaries such as Rick Doblin, the founder of MAPS. We are honored to announce that Hannah McLane and Michelle Joy will be giving a talk on ethics and access to innovative therapies for trauma on Saturday at 10AM. They will also be on an Expanded Access panel discussion on Saturday at 11:30AM. We hope to see you there!

It was an incredible learning and collaborative experience! The workshop was jam-packed with thought-provoking presentations and heartfelt sharing of personal narratives ...

December 14: MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy Project Update and Discussion

We have been invited by the Philadelphia Psychedelic Society to give a talk about our experience with MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy training and our efforts to set up a psychedelic psychotherapy clinic in West Philly, pending FDA approval of the MDMA Expanded Access protocol. We will also be sharing exciting news about potentially partnering with colleagues in Puerto Rico to offer rainforest MDMA treatment options. Discussion points will also include how we are working to create a scenario in which this therapy is made accessible to the most marginalized people in our community, and challenges therein ...
