Psychedelics and Identity Initiative

Over the past year, we have begun to put together a diverse team of individuals who have benefited enormously from psychedelics to shape their sexuality or gender identity and want to lead the charge in this regard.

What does this look like? It can look like going into a medicine journey and realizing you identify as gay. Maybe going through a journey and realizing you’re questioning your gender identity. Or perhaps it is realizing you’re interested in a different form of relationship structure than you are in currently.

When this happens, having a supportive environment around you to exit and emerge from the journey is of utmost importance.

We are designing retreat protocols to be used in groups to help explore these aspects of personal identity and training facilitators looking to specialize in this area. This includes learning how to support others in gender transitions, relationship changes, or other ways to move forward in their lives that are different than their current life. We are also creating educational materials for clinicians to support these transitions or explorations.

First and foremost, we are focusing on group psilocybin experiences to occur in Oregon starting in 2023. We have also had many positive experiences with clients with individual and group ketamine journeys. So this content is also included in our ketamine training curriculum.

If you are interested in staying informed about this initiative, please sign up for our mailing list. If you are interested in directly supporting the care of LGBTQIA individuals at SoundMind, you can donate here.

Happy Explorations!

SoundMind Queer Leadership Council

The SoundMind Queer Leadership Council is a professional network of queer and gender-expansive leaders in the field of psychedelic medicine.

Our group meetings are focused on leadership and professional development, consultation, and marketing to expand your opportunities in the psychedelic ecosystem. They are an uplifting space for members to form relationships, support one another’s success, and envision the future of our field. Fellows are selected according to merit and need and participate at no cost. Fifteen fellows will be chosen for our program starting in Fall 2023. Admission is paid for by us and free to you.

The QLC is a part of the SoundMind Sexuality and Gender Initiative, which works to create a psychedelic future more inclusive of queer and gender-expansive individuals. To support this mission, the Initiative has hosted live workshops on Psychedelics and Sexuality, has published the free Trans-Affirming Care in the Psychedelic Space guide, and deeply integrates the principles of DEI into our Psychedelic Facilitator Training Program.
