BIPOC Peer Support in Psychedelics
Richard Watson, SoundMind Director of Community Outreach and BIPOC Educational Programming, and _________, discuss the need for shared community and peer support in healing trauma in West Philadelphia’s BIPOC community.
At SoundMind, we prioritize developing psychedelic-assisted therapy treatment models that make these innovative new treatments affordable, accessible, and culturally-attuned to patients, especially those who hold marginalized identities. We believe peer support is a vital way to achieve these goals, by incorporating trained peer support mentors into a patient’s treatment team, alongside prescribers and licensed therapists. Through our BIPOC Peer Support project, we are developing protocols to train BIPOC peer mentors to support BIPOC patients as they progress through treatment with ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.
